Last Week of School: Christmas Fun

Monday was "Santa USA" at the boys' school.  Being our first year, I did not know what that was until the teachers starting taking about it.  Every year, Santa surprises the kids arriving in a helicopter....yes, a helicopter.  I mean its a bit over the top, but I was excited about it.  Of course all the kids in 3rd grade told Mason what it was, but none of the Kindergarteners had any idea what was going to happen.  

They did a fire drill to get all the kids outside.  (that's when Mason's class told him what was happening)  They all lined up and then Rudolph, Frosty the Snowman, and a bunch of elves started walking around.  I got there when that was happening and Brody's class was really excited.  

Then all of a sudden they told the kids to look over the school and the helicopter appeared.  All the other kids started chanting Santa, so the Kindergarteners figured it out.  I mean they were happy.

Third grade wasn't as into it of course, but they enjoyed flossing with the guy on the stilts and their teacher. 

He said "isn't it kind of weird he came on a helicopter?!"   haha

Mason's teacher asked him to go take a picture with some of the characters.....but he clearly didn't want to (which I understand completely).   But then she offered him Dojo house points and he jumped up to take a picture.  Ha

We have moved on from Yatzee (bc we ran out of sheets) to Uno.  

We play at least five games every night!

Tuesday was the day of Christmas parties.  

Thankfully, their class parties were different times.  First up was Mason's class. 

They had this snowman backdrop and a chocolate fountain....

Then we went down to Brody's party.  He was really excited about that cupcake.

Today was their last day of school before Christmas break.  It was only a half day, so the boys were pretty pumped.  Better yet, it is my birthday.  The elves reminded everyone.  =)

I didn't have much time before picking them back up, but I did use my birthday gift card from John and the boys to get my nails done.  It was heavenly. 

 After picking them up from school, the boys got their Christmas hair cuts.  There are so many different sports clips around us, so since this one was new to us, they got the MVP treatment.

Tonight we are going to the movies.  Tomorrow we are headed home for a long weekend.  

All the Things: Christmas

Last week, Mason's class started their Secret Giver.  Each kid drew a classmate's name and had specific things to buy each day.  Very easy things like something red....which could be a pencil.  It hasn't cost much and the kids have been SO excited about it.  I think they are more excited to see when their gift is received.  

Mason had his first choir performance last Thursday.  They had a show during school and one at night.  He was pretty nervous about it.  He isn't much of a singer, but the thought of going to Six Flags and the water park (during a school day) was too much and he had to join along with most of the 3rd and 4th graders.  Ha.  I worked and did not go to the performance during the day but saw it that night.

He was front and center but did sooo well.  He knew the words to the songs, and they sounded awesome.  He was pretty proud when it was over.

Friday was Polar Express day for kindergarten.  Brody got to wear PJs. 

I didn't have to work, so I decided to surprise them with lunch.

Saturday was Mason's Six Flags performance.  It was originally the weekend before but it was cold and rainy.  Thankfully, someone had cancelled, and we moved it to Saturday.  The weather was absolutely perfect.  60 and full sun.   We had never been to Holiday in the Park, so we were all looking forward to it.

We decided to walk around the park with all of Mason's friends and their parents.  It was so much fun.  The kids loved riding rides together.  The adults were able to divide and conquer so WE were able to ride good rides too!  It was a blast and we stayed until dark.

We decided to do all things Christmas on Sunday.  It was our last weekend in Texas before Christmas and we have never experienced Christmas here.  We wanted to do some of the top events just because it is so fun doing Christmas things we have never done before. 

I kept seeing pictures of people in Grapevine's "Christmas Capital of Texas". 

It was so much fun walking around.  We ate before we got there and were disappointed when we saw how many awesome "old school" style restaurants there.  They have a MASSIVE Main Street with tons of stores.

So many things are so new in DFW, so it is nice to see something that has been there a while!

We went home to rest a couple of hours, then headed to Frisco.  It is about 40 minutes away and not close.  But we had never been and wanted to see the square lights/ice skate. 

Mason had only skated once before and it did not go well.  He contemplated even trying again, but we talked him into it.  He did so well!  He skated all over that rink and didn't even need to hold on. 

Brody had never been and definitely needed to hold on to the rail.  But he could have cared less if he could free skate or not.  He just loved being out there and flew around that rail a million times. He LOVED it.  ha

He was all about "doing it himself". 

We wanted to see the lights on the square before the light show started. They are beautiful!  And at 6pm, they go along with a Christmas radio station.  It is something to see!

After the light show started, we skated a few more times around the rink before grabbing dinner.  It was so pretty at night. 

All in all, it was a very fun exhausting weekend!  I think we conquered doing all things Christmas.  Hope they cherish all these fun memories!  I know I will!
