Grandparent Visit, Cold Baseball, and the Flu

Brody was excited to participate in Dr. Suess week.  Mason was not interested.

I had to work one day last week and John decided to pick the boys up from school early instead of childcare.  I got home to this.  No homework or dinner cooked, but Fun Dad has played an entire game of basketball and jumping on the trampoline.  It looked like they had a goooood time.

Colors of the rainbow day.

College Day.
Mason agreed to this one.

I added some letters above Mason's bed.  He was happy.  Just a couple of more things to do in there and he will be done.  Thankfully, no painting in this room.

I had a PTA meeting and we decorated cookies.
I was impressed with myself.  Ha.

It got cold here.  Like really cold.

Grandma, Grandpa,  and Grandma Reba all came in town Friday for a visit and to see Mason play in a tourney.  We were all so excited.  Unfortunately, it decided to get even colder.  We bundled up and headed to Allen, TX Saturday morning. Not only was it super cold, it was really foggy and decided to start misting rain.  The temps dropped all day.  It was not ideal!

Brody covered up in this blanket and never watched a second of baseball.

All the smart Moms had the tents.

You know they really love you to sit out in that weather.

This is blurry because it was a video, but Gma Reba had to put a bag over her head when it started misting rain.  Dedication!

Hot chocolate helped for a second.

This kid has done so well, especially at the plate.
So so proud of him.

At second.

Are we in Alaska or Texas?!
It just kept getting colder.

I'm thankful we put their numbers on their hoodies so they could wear them out there.
Here he is after sliding into home.

John checking on the kid under the blanket.

Turns out, he was sick.  Really sick.  We didn't really realize it until 30 min until the games were over.  We had him out there in that weather too.  I carried him to the car and he fell right asleep.

Brody slept the entire way home, and Mason ended up falling asleep too.

We convinced Brody to go out to eat. (probably shouldn't have but he rallied)

Sunday they decided to cancel the tournament.  Last minute, Mason and I decided to go to church to meet friends who were attending for the first time.  We got ready in five minutes.  Not kidding.

We all went out to eat for Sunday lunch, but this one wasn't feeling too well again.

Sunday naps.

Look at those rosy cheeks. Took his temp and it was 102.
We started alternating Motrin/Tylenol and made him nap.

He woke up for a game or two of Yatzee and then went back to bed.

He woke up Monday morning and was like a new person.  Not completely fever free but almost.  That fever is the pits.

We had to say goodbye to the dogs and grandparents.  Despite the weather and sickness, we had such a fun weekend with them

Mason's teacher text me around 11am Monday morning.  Told me he wasn't feeling good at all.  I knew immediately he was sick.  He is never sick and HATES missing school. He has basketball tournament games this week and baseball practice, so I decided to get him a doctors appt to make sure it wasn't the flu. (never made Brody an appt since he started to feel better)

Took them both with me of course and the doc said "well which one is sick, bc they book look sick".  Lol.  I told her whatever Mason had, Brody had given it to him but was already getting better.

Turns out, we had the Flu the whole time....

And this one now has it.

They both slept great last night and Brody should be able to go back to school tomorrow.  Mason is already feeling a bit better but will probably be out until Friday.  No one else can get it because we have a little trip planned for Spring Break!

First Baseball Tournament of the Season

It was Teacher Appreciation Week last week.  We found a local popcorn shop (and gift cards) to give to our teachers.....and we may have gotten some for ourselves.  It was way too good.

We also had another fundraiser night at Son-Dash.  Brody insisted we go after dinner so he could meet up with his friends.  And he was right, most of them were there.
Mason was okay with going too...

They also had "movie star" day.  It is a bit difficult for boys, but Mrs. Roy told me to just put him in a jersey which he thought was a great idea.  He added a mohawk with it.

Mason's class during music.

Got our report cards Friday.  Mason got straight As again.  Brody for all Ms for mastered.

And during their awards assembly, Brody received the Kindness Award for Kindergarten, and Mason still has perfect attendance.  They each got a coupon for 2 free donuts so hello Saturday breakfast. .

Brody loves watching basketball but it was getting too intense for him...

We had a gorgeous weekend.

We had to get Mason new tennis shoes and he is now a size 5 which is a 7 in women's.  I wear a 7.5 but could wear his if needed....its crazy to me.  He is growing up too quickly.

Sunday was our first baseball tournament of the season.  Since he made this competitive team, it's all tournaments on the weekends.  We played in a one day Sunday tournament in Crowley which is about 40 minutes away.  We had to be there at 7:15, so it was dark out when he left!!!!

And it was COLD when we got there.  Brody hid under his blanket for the entire first game.

To be completely honest, we didn't know how much Mason would get to play.  It is a 10u team and he should be playing in 9u.  He has only one kid pitch fall season under his belt and it was with rec (and only 4 games bc of weather).  This is a completely different game.  It is clear he is lacking the baseball IQ but that comes with repetition and he just needs to practice and play, which is why he tried out.   He has never stolen bases or lead off....any of that.  But he got tons of playing time and held his own.  We were very proud.

Brody and I found some tricks.  The bathrooms were warmer because there was no wind blowing on you (wind is so bad here!), and they had warm water!  We thawed out a few times in the morning.

And found some hot chocolate.

Unfortunately, we lost the first two games.  We had a couple of hours to grab lunch before the next game.  He got a double and walked a couple of times in the morning games.

Mason went out to practice with John before the next game and Brody and I stayed in the car.
I could've taken a nap!

Brody was his biggest supporter all day.  Wore his extra hat, watched all all of the last three games, kept score for all of us parents, and ate plenty of sunflower seeds.

We then started to sweat and got sunburned for the next games.....

Mason up to bat.

He got the game ending run and was pretty excited.

This was about the time it turned cold again.  Thats when you know you've been out there too long.  Go from freezing, to hot, to cold again.  They ended up having to do 2 extra innings in the fourth game and lost.  It was crazy intense.  Im not sure I'm cut out for all this!  If they would have kept winning, they would have had to play 2 more games.....we didn't get in our car until 6:30 that night to head home too.  This is going to be a big adjustment for all of us.  But it was really fun to watch him and his team play.

We all woke up groggy Monday morning, but that didn't stop
Brody from finding socks for crazy sock day.

I spent the day catching up on life and getting these stains out of these baseball pants.
Man, it is tough!
